General Meeting Minutes October 2, 2012
2. Vice President- Annalise Olsen has nothing to report.
3. Superintendent- Molly Barnes will be on the roof as the students meet their goal in purchasing 700 books at the Scholastic Book Fair. Huge thank you to Kindra for the Walk A Thon. There’s been such a valuable event over the years and a success. Thank you for the Welcome Back Potluck. It was so fun to see all the families getting together and relaxing. Red Ribbon Week is October 15th – 19th. The Sunol Glen (SG) Student Council is working on it. School is working on Character Building – being responsible. Halloween Parade 11:45 leaving outing of the parking lot. Encourage parents to walk and/or watch the parade. November 13-16th for Parent Conferences. Thanks to everybody for the Track and how far we came in a year.
4. Secretary- Claudia Zuanich has nothing to report.
5. Treasurer- Don Ball stated the Walk A Thon has brought in 23K. The totals will be reported later. Expenses are at 2K but are not reflective of the total, yet. Teachers’ Discretionary Fund (TDF) – teachers haven’t spent yet as they’re possibly waiting for classes to settle before they spend. Teachers can bundle their funds. Budget – event chairs will be getting an email from Don regarding the upcoming meetings. Science club is going to switch their banking and use Community Club (CC )as their bank in order to facilitate their accounting. For now, please put “Sunol Glen” when writing checks and write what program it’s for in the memo. Science club meets on Fridays. Flyers will be going out soon.
6. Volunteer Coordinator- (Lorrie Ballard absent) Kindra stated that CC still needs chairs/co-chairs for some events. Also looking for CC reps. The CC Rep comes to meetings and when they get home gathers information from meeting in an email and then emails to class. Reminder that volunteers need to fill out volunteer form and complete TB test. Turn in form to Lindsey in the office. Form has to be submitted annually, TB test every 4 years.

- Old Business
- Track- Dr. Coplan (Sunol Education Foundation) stated the track is in place and thanked all the volunteers and participants. Expressed thanks to SG and CC for help and enthusiasm and that it was inspiring and encouraging. Hopes for more events/programs in which the communities and school are brought together. All the hard work was appreciated. Molly stated that Dr. Coplan is the one that made it happen. He was inspirational and motivational.
- Walk A Thon- Kindra informed it takes place on Friday, October 5th from 12:30 – 2:50 and it will be the 20th Annual. SG will use the track and have a rally and a ribbon cutting where volunteers will be recognized for their hard work. The children will receive treats after laps and the Fire Fighters will be present to hose down. $27K brought in so far. Budget meeting is November 13th. There will be a Spirit Rally. Don stated help is needed with easy-ups the morning of the event. Favor for students is a water bottle holder. Volunteer list just got emailed out again and there are a few slots that need to be filled.
- Technology Committee Meeting- Kindra stated she, Jannet, and Don and met last week and see 2 needs as 2014 (The Smarter Balance Assesment for Common Core) provides some logistical challenges for the school. How does SG accommodate the needs (time span, facility, fairness) for the test? Do we need technology updates? Do we need lap top cart and more computer units? How do we fundraise for the total cost $50K. Waiting until after November elections and then will have a better idea. Don inquired if anybody is familiar with Thin Client? We’d love to hear if anybody has any knowledge regarding it or knows somebody who has.
- Garden Committee- Kindra stated it is moving forward and that kids are using the garden. Contact Lorrie or Kindra if you’re interested in chairing/co-chairing. Alisa and Abran Dreyfus informed that there’ll be a class in mid-October for reps.
- Book Fair- Natalie Campbell said the Book Fair is in full swing. 240 books have already been sold. Volunteers are awesome and kids are having fun. Jooners has been great. Teachers and Librarian have come in and made their requests. Look for their requests if you’re interested in donating. Book Fair is in the auditorium and is 11:50 – 1:15 everyday this week and then 30 minutes after school’s out. It will be open after Walk A Thon. Teachers decided to have CC bank the money from the book fair to be spent on books.
- Volunteer Recognition- Kindra stated she and Lorrie ordered lanyards for those who have volunteered 20 hours. Will be presented at meeting to recognize people who have put time into CC.
- New Business
- Santa’s Secret Shop- Kindra informed that Steph Serpa (not present) has volunteered to co-chair with Sharon Morris. Santa’s Shop gives kids an opportunity to shop without mom/dad/etc. knowing about their gift. 8th graders will help younger students shop. Don stated it is a great way for first time volunteers to get involved.
- Recycle Friday and Green Team- Jannet informed that Jana Shrivener has volunteered to help with Recycle Friday and then take it on. Shawna Hafflefinger will be managing Green Team students who meet about how SG can be green and promote the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot). Earth Week is also a focus. Barbara Droher Kline wants Sunol city green-waste focused throughout the town and residences.
- Adopt A Family Program- Kindra informed that Steph Serpa will be doing it again this year. Viola Blythe Center in Newark feeds needy families. Jooners will be used so that families can sign-up for gifts to give. Steph will need representatives for each classroom to manage it. Not a lot of work. Steph will give the representative the Adopt A Family info and Lorrie will set-up Jooners for each class. Classes will wrap and then representative (and those who want to join) will coordinate delivery. Lisa stated classes can team up (last year the 8th and K1 classes teamed up). Molly stated this has been a great gift for SG as well as kids: they get excited about giving to the families.
- Bounce Night- Don stated CC is expanding on events that have no fundraising but is just for fun. $100 budgeted. CC will provide pizza. Friday, November 2nd is date set for event. Time is TBD.
- Art Cards- Natalie informed the fundraiser is lovely but labor intensive. Fundraiser will take place when SG gets back from Thanksgiving. Need help day of card design as well as printing day. Will bring sign-up sheets to next meeting. 1000 cards were divided up for folding and will be returned to Natalie’s box in the office.
- Costume Sale- Jenny Huang (not present) Kindra stated that Friday is deadline to turn in costume and next week is sale. Goal of the Costume Sale is to make money for Spelling Bee medals. If you donate a costume then you get a discount on purchasing a costume.
- Ideas for FUN CC Events- Kindra circulated sign-up sheet for those interested in coming up with ideas and event planning for CC.
- ESCRIP- Kim and Lindsey stated that once it’s current they’ll let everybody know. Raley’s is in process of reinstating SG for their QCard.
