D.   Reports                     D1.  President  Alyson pointed out Suggestion Bucket for items not on agenda or additional comments; CC purpose is to support students as well as fill the school's funding gap; reminded group that our “community” includes all the parents at Sunol Glen, no matter which town they live in

D2.  Superintendent  Molly asked Phaedra Hageman to recite this year's slogan, “Sunol is a Slice of Heaven in 2011”; Back to School night is an opportunity to network with other parents in class, but not a time for individual conferences with teachers.  Parking will be difficult that night.  Staff has been meeting on emphasizing a “whole child” approach, CC helps with this.  API goal for 2011 is 900.  Teachers also prepare students for the next year and are collaborating on more seamless transitions. Thank you  Deidre McKinney for organizing athletic equipment over the summer.

D3. Vice President  Kindra reported membership drive has surpassed last year's total with ½ as many members.  Membership = voting privileges, .pdf school directory.

                                        D4.  Secretary  Nothing to report

D5.  Treasurer  Doug reported $12,000 still to come from Pledges

D6.  Volunteer Coordinator  Jacquie described “Jooners Overload” from last year – VCs will attempt to organize volunteers by interest to target Jooners requests; thanked volunteers: Dawn Rivera, Karina O’Leary, Michelle Reprince, Lu See Kwik, Heather Maxey, Rameen Kayoumy, Win S. Chen,  Elisabeth Ohmen, Natalie Campbell, Guin Van Dyke, Crystal Diamond, Jenny Huang. Special volunteer thanks to Elizabeth Ohmen - cleaning and stocking the teacher’s lounge; Tracy Melone -  Head Room Parent; Jenny Huang - Hospitality; Steph Serpa - Book Fair; Student Council - Birthday Board.

E. Old Business

E1.  Spring Pledge Drive  Alyson reported over $70,000 pledged by school parents, Sunol community members, local businesses, organizations - $10,000 additional donated by SRT and rolled into Art & Music fund.  This was enough, along with county money offsetting the rest, to ensure art and music programs fully funded through the 2011/2012 school year.  Alyson also noted that because we held Pledge Drive in lieu of Spring Fling with all money allocated for Art & Music, CC funds are short for all other normal expenses.

E2  eScrip                        Lori said 8th grade will arrange for sign ups and hand outs at Back to School Night.  Deanna suggested adding “Shares”; Sharon suggested “juiceinthecity.com” for discount tickets, percentage of which is donated to school of your choice.  CC is looking for someone to chair the eScrip drive.

F. New Business

F1. Walkathon                 18 year traditional fall fundraiser which allows students to make an effort in fundraising for programs that directly affect them.  This year, it will be run during the last 90 minutes of school on Friday, Oct. 1  instead of on a Saturday. Pledges will be collected by students as usual.  Advantage of Friday event is greater participation by students.   Approx. $2,000 in corporate sponsorships have been collected so far. $40 minimum pledge for free t-shirt, to be handed out at subsequent recognition event, allowing us to take pledges thru Oct. 7th before ordering shirts.  Need volunteers to copy Pledge packets, supervise students during the event.

F2.  Sunol Water Temple anniversary
100th anniversary of Water Temple – many people invited by SF PUC.  SGS will be represented by a booth and by volunteer middle school students who will help younger children with craft projects and activities.  CC will submit a display to add to school booth.  Deidre volunteered to create display.

F3.  Great Sunol Bed Races & Chili Cookoff
Concession stand
:  CC will partner with Sunol Business Guild on Oct. 17th for Little Brown Church sponsored event.  Hot dogs, drinks, perhaps hamburgers - 8th grade might sell ice cream.  Deanna has hot dog cooker and suggested Schwann's previously gave her 20% discount on delivered ice cream.
Auction/Raffle:
Lisa will chair silent auction and/or raffle during the event to help bring in donations from outside our normal community.  Will need item donations and volunteers before and during the event.

F4  Santa's Secret Shop     Don is willing to co-chair Santa's Secret Shop with someone.  Will run last week of school before winter break.  Even though it's not a fundraiser, he likes aspects of event – student budgeting, giving, secret gifts.  Will need volunteers to help man it.

F5.  School Gardens         Jessica Fox is willing to help lead a Garden Committee to make decisions about front garden, Teachers' Garden and School Garden and coordinate class instruction.  A “Garden Parent” is necessary for each class that wants to participate.  Request will be made in classrooms on BtoS Night. Jessica's friend has offered to donate all labor and give wholesale cost of equipment for automatic irrigation system.  $250 in garden budget; will assess needs and request more funds if necessary.

F6  Website                      Lisa will meet with Deanna Murchison to get project going.  Website is needed to answer questions about CC events, distribute information, perhaps collect donations.

F7  Budget Committee     Doug says it's the “Fun Committee”; contact Doug to join.  Budget will be proposed in October and voted on at November meeting.
Teacher Discretionary Funds: Don motioned that we raise Lynn Schirmer's (for Kathy Mercer's class) $250 allowance to the $1,000 allocated to other new teachers, Lori second, PASSED. Steph motioned that we also increase Philip Strangio's $250 account left from Mrs. Jowe to $1,000, to be paid out of Art & Music funds, Deidre second, PASSED.   Lori motioned that policy be set to roll any leftover funds from teacher leaving the school into the general CC funds, Kindra second, PASSED.

F8  Volunteer Challenge   Kindra outlined plan to ask for just 2 hours of volunteer time from every parent this year.  Requests will be made on BtoS Night and acknowledgements in Eagle Flier.

F9  Fall Scholastic Book Fair  Steph Serpa will chair again; coordinated same week as Walkathon, open lunch and 1 hour after school.  Has raised $6-7k in books for school in the past.

Next Meeting                    Tuesday, Oct. 5th, 6:30 pm

Adjournment                    Deidre motioned, Jacquie second, meeting adjourned at 8:22
