The Community Club provides financial and volunteer support to many activities, programs, and
events at Sunol Glen School. Below is a glimpse of what programs and activities Community Club supports financially and with parent volunteers. We are proud to be a part of this school and this community.

Dillon's Garden

Picture
Through the vision and drive of volunteers, our school garden was born.  With the help of the Community Club funds and volunteers coordinates construction and maintenance of the gardens and organizes volunteers to implement an outdoor curriculum in the garden.

F.A.M.E. (Fine Arts Mini Experience)

Picture
The Fine Arts Mini Experience is run by Community Club volunteers to provide additional instruction in art and music.  The program provides a detailed look at a particular artist and musician to students once per month.

Family Fun Nights

Picture
Sunol Glen is largely a commuter school which makes it difficult for families to socialize together.  Community Club organizes generally free evenings for families to come together for a fun activity.  Events so far have included a Welcome Back Potluck, Rockin' Jump Night, and Bingo Night.  A Go Green Night and a Movie Night are in the works.

Staff Hospitality

Picture
Each year we fund and run a back-to-school and an end-of-school luncheon for all teachers and staff at school.  This provides an opportunity for the staff to come together in a fun and inviting atmosphere.   We also work to supply goodies and treats in the staff break room.   In addition, Staff Appreciation Week is a major event at Sunol Glen where individual classes prepare daily treats for their teachers while the Community Club organizes school-wide events for all staff such as massages, goodies, raffle prizes, etc.

Annual Events Community Club Organizes

Walk-A-Thon

Picture
The walk-a-thon is one of Community Club's two big school wide fundraisers. For more information please see the fundraising page.

Book Fairs

Picture
As a benefit to the teachers, parents, and the school's library, Community Club organizes two book fairs each year, typically in September and March.  The fairs provide an opportunity to purchase Scholastic books for your students and for your student's classrooms (each teacher puts together a "wish" list of books they would like for their classrooms).  "Profits" from the sales come in the form of a credit with Scholastic books so our Librarian can supplement the books in our School Library.

Santa's Secret Shop

Picture
Students are given an opportunity to come to a small shop set up at school displaying holiday gifts.  Envelopes are sent home with each student to allow for parents and/or students to provide money and budget for the student's holiday shopping.  This is not a fundraiser for Community Club, but provides a good opportunity for students to purchase surprise gifts for parents and family, and to learn about budgeting.  This event takes place in December.

Spelling Bee

Picture
The Sunol Glen spelling bee is organized by Community Club volunteers.  Volunteers first conduct classroom spelling bees and then organize the school-wide spelling bee where 4th through 8th grade students compete.  The winner of the spelling bee moves on to the regional final.  The spelling bee takes place in January.

STEAM Family Night & Trashion Show

Picture
Our school showcases how much fun you can have with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math).  Activities vary year to year, and includes the Trashion Show (a fashion show where clothing is made of trash or re-purposed clothing).

Earth Week

Picture
In the week containing April 22nd (Earth Day), Community Club and the school's Green Team organize student activities focused on being good stewards of the earth.  Activities vary year to year.  Visit Sunol Glen's Earth Week webpage here.

Spring Fundraiser

Picture
Community Club receives half of its funding from its second fundraiser that occurs in spring, typically in May.  It is either a pledge drive or a dinner/auction event.  More details can be found here.

Staff Appreciation Week

Picture
Every year, Community Club organizes school-wide treats for Sunol Glen staff.  This is a chance for parents and students to celebrate the staff that make our school so special.

Activities & Events Community Club Supports Financially

Teacher's Wish Funds

Picture
We know that teachers spend their own money to outfit their classrooms for our students.  Community Club recognizes this hardship and provides financial support to our teachers in the form of funds they can use for whatever they need for their classrooms.  Amounts vary from year to year depending on Community Club resources but typically range between $250 and $500 for returning teachers and up to $1000 for new teachers.

Art & Music

Picture
In 2010, it became clear that budget cuts would result in the loss of our art and music programs (which most other districts had already lost).  The Community Club held a pledge drive which provided supplemental funding for our art and music teachers for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.  More information on the school's art program can be found at www.sunolart.weebly.com.

Technology

Picture
Our students have to compete in the 21st century where technology is everywhere.  We recognize the need to have updated classrooms and provide our students with current technology.  From time to time Community Club provides funding for technology needs, most recently in 2010-2011.  Community Club ensured each core classroom had a document camera, projector, and laptop for instructional use.  Further, Community Club has spearheaded efforts to obtain new computers school-wide and upgrade the school's bandwidth and WiFi to better serve our students.

Classroom Literacy

Picture
Community Club supports on-going development of our classroom libraries through the Scholastic Book Fair program and through funds periodically set aside from Community Club's budget to supplement classroom libraries, especially our leveled-reader libraries.

Field Trips

Picture
Community Club has a field trip fund that provides $200 to each classroom to supplement funding for field trips.  Field trips are expensive for the school given the cost of the bus, driver, and activity fees.  Parents are asked to support field trips by offering a small donation for each trip and Community Club supports these efforts as well.  More recently, with the State's cuts to bus funding, Community Club has increased their level of financial support to classrooms for field trips.

Science Fair

Picture
The Science Fair takes place annually in the first week back from winter break.  Project ideas must be submitted for approval by the science teacher in November.  A panel of parent volunteers with scientific backgrounds judge the projects and winners are selected.  The winners compete in the regional science fair.  Community Club provides funding for the science fair awards.

Track Construction & Playground Improvements

Picture
Community Club helped fund the construction of the track and continues to seek funding for on-going improvements to out-door play areas.
